Homesick
As time rolls on, restless minds no longer bother
Apricot flower and its shadow vanished after a spell of light shower
Along the zigzag path in hometown nothing was left but reed catkin
Which also fell down to the ground no sooner
Open pond is still here, but jagged branches did disappear
My affections for my beloved girl still linger
Probably because old memory serves as a reminder
In a day earlier
A white crane perched on a grassy ladder
Pear flowers like an expanse of drifting clouds looked grander
In the beloved one’s eyes, they were nothing but a wistful wonder
On the cart last night
The purely pleasant time flashed away like a bolt of thunder
With those elegant pose and graceful manner
Slowly fading from the memory forever
Like a migrant bird as ever
I have kept away from hill and river
For chrysanthemum needed soil and water
Until leaves in autumn wind were in red color
Merely for the sake of an unforgettable worldly matter
As the moon waxes and wanes, the heart is far from jitter
Genuinely for the lover
A Branch of Pear Flowers
Truly, its only home is the wilderness
A branch of pear flowers is the hostess
With a genuine smile
Rendering time and space dustless
Grass and trees in lushness, laughing men and neighing horses in joyfulness
Facing the endless wilderness
Watching a branch of pear flowers
In a manner reverent and wordless
A sparrow is basking in sunlight
Uttering a sharp sound in unexpectedness
A Butterfly and Spring
Absorbed in a moment of a day
I found my hair flapping in the wind and apricot blossoming in square array
From the sleeve came out a butterfly
Then landed on a lady’s left breast right away
From another angle exposed the shyness of sun ray
Her facial expression did betray
That she was obsessed with a red petal in a sleepy way
My illusion did say
The sleeve from which came out the butterfly
Lamented the demise of flowers that in the frail wind lay
After washed by rain
They turned into half a river of red petals in decay
Evening Bell
The bell tolls are fading slowly
In the glow of the setting sun, like summer rain’s sad melody
I’m still deeply fascinated by the sea’s glory
Like a butterfly that is very moody
Birds perched on ruins tiredly
Except those nocturnal birds at dusk
Swarming across dirty dish-scattered streets blindly
For their only ear turned deaf already
They have never heard of the story previously
At the night chimes in the South
Those miserable mares ran away immediately
Before they have a time to mate fervently
Down the Fu River spreads a legendary story
About mares’ whinny
About mares’ running as a gust of wind moves quickly
Night wind is passing through the enclosure on the riverside quietly
I took a small boat anxiously
To flirt with that women in the setting sun at the ferry
On the riverside that is drippy
Two lamps hang in the summer sky
Evening bell and mares witnessed our intimacy
Like a tavern banner that is burning seemingly
I’m looking forward to another passionate time wishfully
As an expanse of maples
Anticipates for an enchanting autumn eagerly
Sailor
On the other side you are rowing
With your back receding
Like a wild goose looking at the faraway horizon
With a heavy psychological burden you are traveling
Your changeable facial expression and mast
Like a beam of blue twilights in the morning
From the broken sky a couple of stars are shooting
Stained with summer raindrops while falling
It is the secular wilderness that in such way I'm gazing
Under lamplights sunflower’s shadow is flickering
Subject to waxing and waning
Those bitter waterweeds are itching
Destined to lie on a beach that keeps flowing
I seem to understand seabirds’ singing
That is their intolerable suffering
Behind you waves are rolling
Killing out all the happy hours in the past and future on the island
Like shellfish and soldiers that are escaping
From the battlefield where the saber is rattling
I’m listening to the faint sound from the sea that is roaring
I would swallow a huge islet as if I were starving
Those empty homelands are coming
From mournful places to my innermost being
With a gust of rosy fragrance that they are still retaining
It’s hard to imagine the sun that is setting
Responsible for an expense of sea’s burning
It is a red longing
At the moment through the cabin only the wind is passing
Like a golden sailor
Fondling that reef which has long been sleeping
In fact, nobody but it has an understanding
Of the reef where I’m living
Where there are vivid starlight and the cradle used after I was born
And all the bygone events that are still lingering
Subway Station
The entire city is like a nest at night
Suddenly presenting a desolate sight
Those messy shadows are wandering
Like clouds scattered everywhere without weight
There are three alike on the left and five on the right
Sparrows are perching on twigs
Trembling and leaning against each other in height
A spell of light rain is expected to ruin those shadows
They are excused for their twittering by light
Across the noisy skyline
A humble trace is left in the dense jungle after their flight
Beneath the starry sky that is bright
A subway train is like the night
Looking at me with lonely eyes
Taking a deep breath
Then running through that long alley
Rustling like an old horse lacking might
Leaving for the end of the world
The happiness or bitterness in a day is gone out of sight
After daybreak
At the moment the first sun rays are shining
The earth unlocks the fence of morning
Behind the hill a camel is roaring
Like a horse rider on the Pampas Plain
Breaking the goblet in dream immediately after foot lifting
That small ball leads to a strange land
I almost forget an important thing
To wake up the girl who is in the next room sleeping
What I dreamt last night is pansy
Who is a charming lady
Today she is sitting in my shadow
Across us is a lobby
Like a river that separates us from each other
It’s an eagle named Messi rather than a poetry
We are watching each other across the river in anxiety
My sharp eyes torn open her skirt corner
There is a blossoming cherry flower
Like drunk clouds
Attempting to swallow down the whole crooked river
But I still remember
That girl needs to be awakened later
Chance
I was like a kite in my childhood
Landing onto the my old house’s roof wood
Trapping a handful of sentimental wind
Capturing a twitter
Sowing them where a clean rock stood
Twigs were swinging in the bright sunny day
As the flowers on the grassy slope were in exhilarant mood
I was like my mother’s farming equipment in my youth
Like a reaping hook, hoe, and so forth
Like a little crescent in palm
Loved in depth
Like different seasons
With different faith
Immediately after grown up, I and a wild horse were in resemblance
Tramping through messy flowers without guidance
I pay homage to my hometown in the distance
In the name of my beloved ones
Those fresh sophora flowers in abundance
Looking drunk on twigs in sunset glows
It’s out of chance
I was like crops many years later
I left my native place and led a wandering life thereafter
Having gotten accustomed to irregular life with romantic lover
Occasionally in distress, grievance or tears as a foreigner
A sea spray whirled away dream
Like a life or a wisp of smoke
Blown away by night breeze like a senseless poker
It’s an evitable matter
Birds’ Tweeting Sound
Who stirred up a gust of warm wind at that moment
It was birds that uttered the divine sound
Meeting all ears on the earth with astonishment
Awakening dreamers through windows of apartment
Who then looked far into the distance in bewilderment
It was sparrows that sent out in the morning for playing with water
Warmly greeting each other
Making trees and grass feel more placid and warmer
Like chilly mists, shiny feather
And swaying willow branches over the river
I guess if it were a miracle
It must be a fallen sun in a historical cycle
Along the clicking blue flagstone path
From the north came a horse
Stained with a butterfly’s fragrant particle
Along birds' trace
I attempted to collect their dumb voice
Breaking the morning silence
The sound, if louder, could help me escape
From the urban vice
My space in narrowness, my life in meagerness
If I could find a dewdrop
Or an incomplete apple
I would give up the setting sun’s vastness
And my early devotion, love and kindness
Square
Like a huge foldable fan from the south of the Yangtze River
The wind at dusk stirred up a flock of ants in a corner
Sunset glow in the wind like a dancer
Penetrating through the horizon as through a piece of blank paper
Illuminating time’s pier
The hand with the foldable fan was in the wind waving around
Blowing away the urban fancy without sound
As yellow dust and road swirled away leaves and soldiers
As in June wooden shovel caused unhulled rice bound
In golden glows was the threshing ground
I seemingly returned to the real world that was thorny
A handful of lost days full of sorry
Enough to keep a teenager in misery
Those people or things in the past
Allowing us to enjoy the night freely
Magnificent order could bring forth happiness
Your shadow was rosy
Giving me so little time to dodge in hurry
I shook off your fascinating music in despair
Like a drunk bird getting out a remote mountain without losing a hair
Stepping into a forest of cherry flowers
Tonight’s moon cast light as petals fell without care
I was once again dead drunk and lay bare
On the desolate square
Shahe Bunker
Along that cup’s brink
We could find that teenager’s past night life link
Dim road, messy time
Drizzling rain, sophora petals scattered over the Lion Hill that were stink
At Shahe Bunker
Through pond, cicadas, tabloid, and poster
There was a tavern covered with cinder
Our empty talk fell into the Shahe River
Several squiffy-eyed nightingales in wonder
Like pessimistic flies
Gloomily saw their shadow in water
One year after another over
At the thought of that plate of fried peanut and its sweet smell
I feel myself in hunger
The water flows as ever
But our drinking passion was gone forever
The original alley
Forgotten by stone and sophora flower already
Has turned into a sign post of history
As you know, once time got rusty
Renewing it would be as difficult as rendering bright the dark sky
We have led a befuddled life
Repeatedly giving up any refreshing opportunity
Till a day
I found you alike are not true as I used to play
When I seemed strong
I was bitter with my weakness before you to display
As the shadow follows the form in an inseparable way
Buddies, I want to say
In the world full of scalded bats
It is much better to get drunk in a gray day
Than in a bright night anyway
Passing Through Vicissitudes of Life
Leaving my hometown, I heard nothing but the sound of the wind
The small raindrops on leaves and the slight chill of silvergrass flower
Are natural seeds of the same kind
I had sown them in my beloved one’s land
The wind blew away white clouds
As a poor love relationship was forced to end
I have rendered a woman’s pain
Which would never be left behind
April was far gone as apricot petals fell
I have ruined a plant
And its wonderful smell
Since then reeds began to blossom and wither away with no meaning to tell
I’ve got accustomed to mottled natural scenes
The bygone splendor made me feel unwell
I know the bell tolls at midnight
Which are impossible to return back to the Tang Dynasty temple straight
With my free left hand
I’d like to wipe your unpretentious and clear tears without weight
In the small world
Plucking a peach flower
I’d like to present it to others at a road junction in my hometown in delight
At dusk I left for the south by deer hastily
Passing through a moorland at midnight together with a lamb
This kind of vicissitudes, if called, is what I’d like to accept willingly
The grief arising from the fall of ten thousand petals
The desolate village abandoned by emigrant bread-earning family
Faded away in the tinges of birds gradually
As a yellow leaf fell lonely
Riding Through Chengdu
By moonlight
I rode along the Minjiang River
Galloping in spring on the plain in delight
The timely rain last night
Dropping from the eaves of the Tang Dynasty to the riverside was out of sight
The millennium rain
Witnessed beautiful scenes in the Chengdu Plain
In history here were numerous heroes
Making great contributions with their own pain
Every dynasty
Has had a wonderful gain
With the sound of water from the Minjiang River
I would make a length of brocade
Using the accumulated snow on the Xiling Mountain as a lighter
Freighters departing from Jiuyan Bridge
At the songs of birds that were as sweet as flower
Passed through Qingyang Taoist Temple and Huanhua Brook
Greeted by withered flowers along the river
What’s the matter
The season’s footprints were the verses scattered on the plain
I keep on looking for the lonely mist along the path with flower
It is what in dreamland or the confused past in a thatched cottage
Left at Wanli Bridge and in exotic flowery color
Riding through Chengdu
I found in teashops, temples and Kuanzai Alley
In each tile, even in the city’s every corner
There were traces
Left by Chengdu people when they led their life as a fighter
A roaring river irrigates a vast expanse of paddy field
Rendering lovely crops green in spring and yellow in autumn
Twigs habituated to autumn as a shield
And two orioles were gazing at the sky above Chengdu
From an awesome perspective that made them yield
A Silent Ear
After rain, the ear of St. Sophia's Cathedral attempted to listen
The noises washed away last night
The sound of sunlight forcing through window had risen
So that it in no time greeted the ear of the cathedral
Whose cross was already rust-eaten
Apart from the sound of flushing toilet
That shattered the air yet
The shout of emigrant workers when running after a motorcycle
Was also what my ear met
This was what I did get
KFC’s yield was fruity
As brilliant as a room’s beauty
Those sparrows were haughty
Spreading the shouts of joy together with dewdrops
To every corner of balconies and gardens in the community
For nearly an hour it'd been rainy and windy
Trimming tree branches and watering flowers
It turned the trees in the community
Into an enchanting lady
Those noises all came into my ear
But the absence of cows and lambs mooing seemed a pity
Night Watchman
You’re left alone
Guarding the darkness of the night
As if to protect a priest frock cone
Which got over the fence and vanished in the air soo
As lamplight became dim and lone
Like a stray arctic fox
Your shadow moved into a moonlight-lit zone
As calm as a building’s tone
You and such a night are destined to sink together
Or to swallow down in a blunt manner
That arrogant square
Like soldiers breaking out of encirclement in all directions
Compared to the square, the alley is darker
Except a delusive step
Compared to the eave, the corridor is dimmer
Except a lonely ladder
The wind is motionless
The door is jinglingly restless
After the breathtaking midnight
Unacquainted tree leaves are always aimless
To stealthily pry into others’ business
Probably something is still out of your sight
Life is also a hidden night
Except your beloved ones
And cat’s eyes
Here exists nothing bright
